Lucullus Virgil McWhorter Papers, 1848-1945

Correspondence, primarily with: W.P. Bonney, Red Fox Skiuhushu, Louis Mann, Mourning Dove [Catherine Galler, Christine Quintasket ], Buffalo Ben Olney, Chief Um-tee-bee; journals, clippings, memorabilia, photographs, manuscripts and printed material containing historical and anthropological information on the Pacific Northwest, mostly regarding the Nez Percés and Yakimas, Indian agents, government officials, anthropologists and historians relative to the Nez Percé Indian War of 1877 and the Indian war of the 1850s. Series 6 includes draft versions of Mourning Dove's legends and tales. Series 7 included Mourning Dove Correspondence, 1914-1935, undated, chiefly consists of correspondence, printed items, and fragments relating to Cogewea, publishing issues, and her association with McWhorter.
